Traveler’s Tips:
– Do not walk alone: It is recommended to undertake journeys in groups of at least two or three people.
– Hire local guides: Due to the type and difficulty level of the trails in La Zorra Canyon, San Dionisio, and San Simón, it is advisable to hire local guides to avoid getting lost and make the journey more enjoyable. Local ranchers in the reserve communities provide guide and mule services for riding and cargo.
– Equipment: Carry basic equipment for cold camping. Travel light, avoid carrying canned food or other heavy items, use lightweight mountain boots with good soles to protect ankles. Wear a hat or cap, sunglasses, etc.
– Visiting dates: Tours can be conducted throughout the year. After hurricane seasons, i.e., October and November, springs have more water, which is crucial for replenishing during long trails in La Zorra Canyon, San Dionisio, La Victoria, San Simón, and La Burrera.
– Start of tours: Consider high temperatures during certain times of the year and aim to walk early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
– Permitted camping sites: Use only designated camping sites; light fires only at authorized points in the campsites and ensure they are completely extinguished when leaving.
