As President Claudia Sheinbaum visits Baja California Sur, proposed bridge projects in San José del Cabo are among infrastructure priorities being raised.

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s visit to Baja California Sur is putting renewed attention on infrastructure priorities that could directly affect Los Cabos, including proposed bridge projects in San José del Cabo.

Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío has said the state intends to seek federal support for the El Vaquero and El Zacatal bridge projects, both tied to longstanding concerns about mobility and connectivity in the municipality.

Why the bridges matter

San José del Cabo’s rapid growth has placed increasing pressure on road infrastructure. Seasonal storms can add another complication when arroyos and low-lying crossings become difficult or unsafe to navigate.

New bridge infrastructure has therefore become more than a convenience issue. For residents, workers, emergency services and visitors, dependable crossings can affect everyday movement across the city.

The presidential visit does not by itself guarantee federal financing for either project. The important development will be whether the discussions result in specific funding, timelines or formal commitments.

For Los Cabos, the conversation comes amid a wider debate over how infrastructure funding can keep pace with one of the country’s most economically important tourism destinations.
