Los Cabos is getting additional electricity-generation capacity as rapid residential, tourism and commercial growth continues to push demand for basic infrastructure higher.
Recent local reporting says the Federal Electricity Commission, CFE, has expanded generation serving Los Cabos, with the additional capacity described as sufficient to supply the equivalent of approximately 89,000 homes.
The comparison is useful for understanding the scale of the expansion, although it should not be interpreted as 89,000 new homes being connected at once.
Keeping up with Cabo’s growth
Electricity infrastructure is a critical but often less visible part of Los Cabos’ development boom. New resorts, residential communities, restaurants, retail projects and a growing year-round population all add demand to the regional grid.
The expansion comes as Baja California Sur continues addressing the unique challenges of an isolated electrical system that is not interconnected with Mexico’s main national grid.
For residents and businesses, added generation capacity is important to longer-term reliability, particularly during periods of intense summer heat when air-conditioning pushes electricity demand higher.
Los Cabos’ infrastructure conversation often centers on water and roads, but electricity is another essential piece of the same growth equation.
