A video circulating in Cabo San Lucas has raised concern after a private security worker was recorded placing sea turtle hatchlings into a bag at a hotel property.
Local outlet Tribuna de México reported on the footage Tuesday. The circumstances surrounding the worker’s actions have not been fully established publicly, and The Cabo Magazine is not drawing conclusions about the worker’s intent or what happened to the hatchlings afterward.
Protected wildlife in Los Cabos
Sea turtles are federally protected in Mexico, and the beaches of Los Cabos are important nesting areas. During nesting and hatching season, trained conservation teams and authorities routinely monitor nests and, when necessary, manage hatchlings under established wildlife-protection procedures.
That makes official clarification important. A short video alone cannot establish whether the handling was authorized, part of a conservation response, or improper.
The Cabo Magazine is treating the incident as a developing story and will update it if PROFEPA, the hotel or another responsible authority provides verified information.
