On Sunday, September 29, Christian Agundez was sworn in as the new Mayor of Los Cabos. The inauguration ceremony took place at the main plaza in San José del Cabo, with Baja California Sur state governor Victor Castro in attendance.
Who Is Christian Agundez?
Agundez, an architect by profession, has served as a Los Cabos councilman and a state lawmaker. His experience in both urban development and governance positions him well to lead the municipality.
His family also has deep political roots. His father, Narciso Agundez, served as Los Cabos’ mayor from 1999 to 2002 and as the governor of Baja California Sur from 2005 to 2012. Narciso was instrumental in building key infrastructure like the Cabo to La Paz highway, the Salvatierra Hospital, and various elementary schools.
New Mayor’s Priorities
In his inaugural speech, Christian Agundez outlined his immediate goals:
- Urban Development Plan: He promised approval within a month.
- Water Supply Improvements: A priority for addressing local needs.
- Mobility & Public Transportation: Enhancing ease of movement in Los Cabos.
- Affordable Housing: Tackling housing shortages.
- New Regional Hospital: Plans to build a state-of-the-art healthcare facility.
Mayor Agundez, in his early 40s, is married with three young daughters, one of whom was born just weeks before his inauguration.
