October is when Los Cabos begins to feel outdoorsy again.
The destination never really shuts down for summer, but intense heat and humidity change how visitors use the landscape. Fall brings a different rhythm: earlier beach mornings, longer golf days, major fishing tournaments, birding, desert excursions and the beginning of the season when being outside becomes the point of the trip again.
Fishing takes center stage
October is synonymous with tournament season in Cabo San Lucas. Billfish competition begins this week, followed by Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore and then the Black & Blue later in the month. Even for non-anglers, the marina becomes part of the spectacle.
Golf moves back up the itinerary
Los Cabos has built much of its luxury identity around desert-meets-ocean golf. Fall conditions make tee times increasingly attractive, although midday sun and very high UV can still be intense.
Birding and the estuary
The Los Cabos Bird Festival this week is a reminder that outdoor Cabo extends beyond beaches and boats. The San José del Cabo Estuary offers a quieter look at the region’s natural environment and birdlife.
Desert, beach and water
Hiking, cycling, surfing, snorkeling and desert excursions all become easier to build into a day as the season progresses. Ocean conditions still deserve respect during Pacific hurricane season, and anyone heading offshore should check current marine forecasts.
October is the transition month: still warm, still tropical, but increasingly the beginning of the outdoor Cabo that draws travelers through winter and spring.
