One of the first surprises for many Americans and Canadians arriving in Los Cabos is just how easy everyday shopping can be. You are still very much in Mexico — and that is part of the appeal — but the mix of familiar international brands, modern supermarkets and genuinely local markets means you rarely feel far from what you need.
The familiar names are already here
For a full stock-up, Costco Wholesale Los Cabos in El Tezal remains one of the easiest places to buy groceries, household goods and bulk items. Walmart has multiple Los Cabos locations, including Cabo San Lucas, while AutoZone is available for the inevitable car battery, wiper blade or road-trip emergency.
Home projects are getting easier, too. The Home Depot now has two Los Cabos-area stores: the long-established location near Cabo Bello and a new San José del Cabo store that opened in August 2026. The San José opening was the chain’s third store in Baja California Sur and added more than 50,000 products to the local retail mix. The Home Depot announced the opening in August.
And yes, familiar quick stops are part of life here as well. You will find names such as Carl’s Jr. alongside Mexican chains, taco shops and local restaurants — which is really the larger story of shopping in Cabo: convenience and local culture live side by side.
Grocery shopping can be as local — or as familiar — as you want
Beyond Costco and Walmart, Los Cabos has an unusually broad supermarket selection. La Comer, Soriana Híper, Fresko La Comer, City Market and Selecto Súper Chedraui all serve the area, ranging from practical everyday supermarkets to more upscale grocery experiences.
For imported products, specialty diets and organic items, California Ranch Market has become a go-to for many residents and visitors. Its current locations include Cabo San Lucas, Palmilla and Puerto Los Cabos, with a mix of natural, organic and imported products that can make a vacation rental — or a new home — feel stocked very quickly. California Ranch Market also offers online ordering and delivery.
Then there is the other side of Cabo grocery shopping: the places where local families shop. Soriana, La Comer, neighborhood carnicerías, pescaderías, produce stands and municipal markets are where you start finding the ingredients, prices and flavors that make living here feel less like an extended vacation and more like Mexico.
Fashion shopping has changed dramatically
Los Cabos is no longer limited to souvenir stores and resort boutiques. Ánima Village at Cabo del Sol has quickly changed the retail landscape with brands including Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Lululemon, Nike, Sephora, Coach, Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and more. Don’t skip the markets
Some of the best shopping in Los Cabos happens when the weather cools. Seasonal organic and farmers markets in San José del Cabo and Palmilla bring together local produce, breads, honey, prepared foods, crafts and small producers, while the long-running organic market in Pedregal offers another local option in Cabo San Lucas.
That mix may be the best way to describe shopping in Los Cabos today. You can buy a case of sparkling water at Costco, pick up Mexican pantry staples at Soriana, find imported specialty foods at California Ranch Market, shop Zara at Ánima Village and spend Saturday morning buying produce directly from local growers.
For anyone visiting for a week — or considering a move — there is comfort in knowing the basics are easy. But the real pleasure is that Los Cabos does not ask you to choose between familiar and local. Increasingly, you get both.
